We attach footage of intimidation of a woman being violently verbally abused for attending a WPUK meeting in London. This attack took place on International Women’s Day when this sister visited her trade union picket line as an elected national official. Such attacks are wholly unacceptable and represent an attack on women’s rights to assemble and to freely express opinions.
We expect the right to free speech without fear of intimidation or harassment to be upheld in a democratic society . All institutions that claim to respect free speech, including trade unions, need to make clear intimidation plays no part in their organisations. We expect this attack to be condemned across the trade union movement.
This incident shows that although some trans activists are prepared to go to extreme lengths to silence and intimidate women their tactics do not work. Women will not be silenced about proposals that materially affect our lives.
We believe that it is important to share a range of viewpoints on women’s rights and advancement from different perspectives. WPUK does not necessarily agree or endorse all the views that we share.
