WPUK Meeting with Green Party

We are astonished by the reaction to Caroline Lucas tweeting that she is arranging a meeting with Woman’s Place UK to hear the concerns of women in relation to proposals to change the Gender Recognition Act (GRA).

In these reactions, we have, once again, been misrepresented as a ‘far-right’ ‘Transphobic’ ‘hate-group’ with which no self-respecting politician should engage. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Flyer 1On the contrary, we are a grassroots campaign made up of women in the labour movement and women’s services with five reasonable demands to ensure that women’s voices are heard on issues of material concern to them, and that our rights are defended and upheld.

You can read more about us and why we formed here.

This reaction is an attempt to prevent a female leader of a political party from meeting with people concerned with the rights of women and girls and whose opinions and experience may help the Green Party deal with a crisis over safeguarding.

The wild and offensive accusations levelled at us are a deliberate strategy to deter people from listening to women and hearing our concerns. It should not be tolerated in a democracy.

We congratulate Caroline Lucas in agreeing to meet with us; to listen to, and consider our concerns about the impact that changes to the GRA will have on women’s rights and protections.

We thank those other politicians who have also taken this step.

We now call on the leaders of all the UK political parties to meet with us to help us get the law on Gender Recognition right for everyone.

We believe that it is important to share a range of viewpoints on women’s rights and advancement from different perspectives. WPUK does not necessarily agree or endorse all the views that we share.
