Meeting with Leeds Council

WPUK met with Leeds City Council in December 2018. A local representative who had been involved in setting up the Leeds WPUK meeting also attended.

The discussion included:

  • An exchange of views on the decision by Leeds to cancel the WPUK meeting at short notice, forcing us to relocate to another venue.
  • Reference to emails that had been disclosed under FOI where WPUK had been smeared by representatives of Leeds City council in an wholly malicious and unprofessional manner.
  • A discussion on the civic responsibilities of Local Authorities to promote equality and to foster good relation between groups.

Whilst there was not agreement on these points there was shared acceptance that a further meeting to debate the issues surrounding women’s rights and the GRA would be of merit.  We are intending to follow this up and hope that Leeds City council will host a debate in the future.

6th February 2019

We believe that it is important to share a range of viewpoints on women’s rights and advancement from different perspectives. WPUK does not necessarily agree or endorse all the views that we share.
