Statement on Labour NEC & AWS

6th March 2018
The reports that today the Labour Party will confirm a policy of removing sections of the Equality Act to rescind the protection of women to access women only services is extremely troubling.
Where and when was this policy agreed?
There has been no consultation with women or the trade union movement.
We believe that the Labour Party NEC are acting precipitously and out of ignorance of the issues. Despite repeatedly asking for meetings with the Labour Party to discuss concerns, no meeting has taken place.
This policy will create huge damage in the trust and confidence women have in the party and we urge the Party to put in place proper and meaningful consultation.
END
We believe that it is important to share a range of viewpoints on women’s rights and advancement from different perspectives. WPUK does not necessarily agree or endorse all the views that we share.
