WPUK: Far-Right Not Welcome Here

We are aware that some individuals on the far-right are seeking to make political capital out of the aggressive protests against the WPUK public meeting in Manchester last week.
We have always made clear our rejection of alliances with the far or religious right which we believe work against the rights of women and girls.
We are committed to equality and justice for all and we reject any attempt by such individuals or groups to inject racist, divisive rhetoric or actions into our legitimate campaign for women’s rights. This has been our position since our inception.
As we said in our rebuttal of an article in the Institute of Race Relations (IRR) in June last year:
The failure of much of the Left to engage with women’s concerns means that some women are choosing to make coalitions with conservative and far-right groups on single issue campaigns.
This is not something that we support or endorse.
We continue to oppose any alliances with the far or religious right and seek instead to forge ahead with an anti-racist, socialist campaign which has in its sights genuinely progressive demands and solutions.
We lay the blame for this divisiveness at the door of political parties and other organisations who have failed to facilitate a proper public discussion of proposed changes in law and policy.
It is time they took responsibility for helping to create a toxic debate they so routinely decry.

We believe that it is important to share a range of viewpoints on women’s rights and advancement from different perspectives. WPUK does not necessarily agree or endorse all the views that we share.
